Technology companies are working hard to make your home smarter. In just a few years, the various gadgets and devices within a typical house will interact with each other. The goal: bringing more convenience to our everyday lives.

For example, you’ll never need to check the expiration date on your milk container because your refrigerator will tell you before it spoils. It’ll even send a message to your car as you drive past your local grocery store and remind you to pick up a gallon.

It might take a few years for it to really take off — considering how infrequently people buy new appliances — but as manufacturers incorporate smarter technology into products, it’s only a matter of time before it hits the mainstream.
