Why Learning Online Is The Way Of The Future

why learning online is the future

I am a strong proponent of online based learning for higher education and consider it to be the future. The times are changing nowadays, with university students finding themselves in the middle of a sea of commitments beyond getting a degree. They have to take care of their jobs and family commitments, that demands a good share of their time. By providing the students an option of taking classes through online medium and studying on their own time, we can help establish their work-life balance to a great extent. A good number of state institutions do not have enough resources to admit everyone in college, this can be complemented through online learning.

Students have to make a call whether online learning is a consideration for them because this type of study is not for your average Joe. How do you know for sure? Ask yourself whether you are okay with learning independently; How efficient are you with your time? Are you tech savvy? What is your level of reading comprehension? Do you have a minimum of ten hours to spare a week for learning?

Many people wrongly assume that an online class will be easier than it’s offline counterpart. That is not the case though. Online instructors will probably assign you more reading materials than it is required in an offline classroom to make sure that you are engaged on the course. Motivation could be considered the key to success when you are trying to learn through online medium.

Online learning has huge potential to be able to turn higher education on it’s heels. Students can now learn at their own place and pace without having to worry about simple day to day problems like, commuting to college. Colleges and universities run by the government are already strained by their infrastructure and find it difficult to add new facilities to include new population. Online learning can turn out to be a lot cheaper than going to a physical college.

All these are not possible without having the right instructors who will be able to adapt to this new age medium. With the help of the latest technology, we can make sure that instructors have enough tools to create exciting new ways of learning online,  engaging students in a myriad of different ways that are effective than a seminar hall.

Creating national transfer pool is the logical next step, so that a few online courses can be taken from anywhere in the country. This will democratize the higher education sector to a huge extent, bringing education under the reach of a huge number of students.

Higher education officials will have to work towards establishing partnerships with major technological solution providers to make sure that online courses takes maximum advantage of all the latest developments that can potentially increase the student’s ability to learn.

I am looking forward to a time when all the physical colleges are replaced with virtual colleges and universities, where students not only take their classes online, but are able to learn beyond their courses. Online learning can reduce the cost of education for those in need of it.

The times of free online reading is just starting and the possibilities are endless.
