Searching on Pinterest is about to get another boost.
The social network is rolling out tweaks to its platform across all devices starting Tuesday to help users find exactly what they’re looking for, and to do so much faster.
The improvements are small, but they add up to significant changes in how to browse the platform. Pinterest is not only used for projects like remodeling a home or planning a wedding, but also for shopping, making it a huge opportunity for ecommerce sites. So the company is verifying high-profile pinners.
Verified users will see red check marks next to their names on their profiles; that way, you can be sure you’re not looking at a fake J. Crew account. Pinterest is working with select brands for verification, but is not accepting applications to be verified right now (as Twitter does, for example), the company said.
Other updates include helping users find trending topics on the site; you’ll see them immediately once you tap the search bar. After performing a search, results won’t be hidden behind different filters. Instead, the new interface will show pins, pinners and boards combined into one list. Pinterest also added a filter button to help users narrow down on their searches.
The changes come at an important time for Pinterest. The company recently introduced buyable pins, which will let users buy a product from within the Pinterest app, something that could help it turn into an online shopping powerhouse.
